Class Descriptions

Tiny Tutus ( 2.5-3) -This is an introductory class for the littlest dancer ages 2.5-3.  In this ballet based class dancers will learn basic dance steps,  use their imagination, follow direction, interact with other children, gain independence and confidence, all while having fun in a structured setting!

 

Little Tutus ( 3-5) -This is the next level up from Tiny Tutus.  In this ballet based class dancers will gain more experience and education properly executing basic dance steps,  use their imagination, follow direction, interact with other children, gain independence and confidence, all while having fun in a structured setting!

Princess Ballet ( 3-6) -This is the next level up from Tiny Tutus.  In this ballet based class dancers will gain more experience and education properly executing basic dance steps,  use their imagination, follow direction, interact with other children, gain independence and confidence, all while having fun in a structured setting!  Each week the class has a different theme!  The instructor dresses as Elsa, Belle, Cinderella, Alice, Snow White, Tink & many more princesses!  She then incorporates the theme into the class with each lesson.  We encourage all princess ballerinas to dress up for this ballet class!

 

Beat Boppers (ages 3-5) -  This is an introductory hip hop dance class, freestyle, groove, & rhythm!  Class is taught with s face-paced upbeat approach to fun popular kid friendly songs.

Pre-K Song & Dance (ages 3-5) -  In this class dancers will get to explore movement and voice together.  Dancers will engage with props, learning basic choreography to popular Disney and other fun sing-a-long songs!

Ballet- Technique based on body alignment, proper placement and posture. Barre and center floor work are combined with choreography combinations to teach musicality, rhythm, coordination and flexibility. Ballet provides a foundation for all other forms of dance as well as conditioning for sports and injury prevention.  Ballet is the basis for all forms of dance and is encouraged for all dancers, as well as athletes wishing to gain better body control, alignment and core strength.  Ballet teaches discipline, self control, respect and self awareness.

 

Jazz- A  technique based class that emphasizes style and musicality. As an ever changing art form, jazz dance encompasses many forms of technique from contemporary to musical theater.   In this class several different methods of jazz dance are taught to dancers encouraging them to understand the history and background of the style.  Classes focus on flexibility, strength, turns and leaps and jazz choreography combinations. Jazz is specifically used to teach personal expression and help dancers find their personal style and voice, as well as body control and awareness. 

 

Contemporary-This is a choreography based class that is for intermediate and advanced dancers.   Contemporary dance has  grown to become one of the dominating performance genres for trained dancers throughout the world.  Although originally informed by and borrowing from classical, modern, and jazz styles, it has since come to incorporate elements from many styles of dance.  In terms of the focus of its technique, contemporary dance tends to utilize both the strong and controlled legwork of ballet and modern dance's stress on the torso, and also employs contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristic of modern dance.  Unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction are often used, as well. Breaking boundaries of technique utilizing technique.

 

Jazz Funk-A derivative style that incorporates both elements and techniques of jazz and hip hop.  Choreography and across- the- floor work are taught in this class often done to popular pop and hip hop music.  This is a class for intermediate and advanced dancers.   The style is becoming more popular among trained dancers world wide.

 

Tap-This is a lively, rhythmic dance style that makes the performer not just a dancer, but also a percussive musician.   Both Rhythm Tap and Broadway Tap styles are taught.  Lower level tap classes focus on basic tap techniques , terminology, and choreography combinations.

 

Hip Hop-This style focuses on strong hip hop technique, culture, style, and knowledge.  Our hip hop classes incorporate the street styles (breakin, footwork, uprock, poppin, krumping, lockin, waving & more!)  as well as the commercial styles (jazz funk, house, video hip hop).  Classes consist of warm up, across-the-floor, choreography combinations, and freestyle cypher (freestyle circle) , battles, and tag.  Special lighting effects and many styles of music make these classes super funky fresh! 

 

Lyrical-This is a choreography based class in which students focus on both ballet and jazz techniques while learning more fluid movement and relating those movements to the lyrics of a song with emotion and feeling.

 

Boys Crew-  Calling all b-boys!  This class is a mix of hip hop and break dance styles.  Did we mention free-style?   This class is for you if you love to bust your own moves out.  Learn group choreography and perform at several local events throughout the year!   It consists of all males and is taught by a male instructor.  Jr. Boys Crew is for ages 6-9 and Boys Crew is for ages 10 and up.

Dance Tricks & Flexibility-This class focuses of various training elements combining dance, with tumbling as well as acrobatics.  Basic through advanced tumbling skills are incorporated into the various levels.  Both partner and group exercises as well as stunting are developed skills students explore in this high energy, high endurance popular class.  This class has a strong emphasis on developing flexibility.

Progressions-In this class dancers will develop technique while executing choreographic elements in a traveling combination across the floor.  In other words this is an across the floor only class!  Dancers will focus on cleaning technique in multiple stylistic turns and jumps as well as performance, timing, travelling, and musicality.

Improv-This class focuses of various training elements combining multiple genres of dance into one class!  Focus on different techniques to become more comfortable and creative in freely expressing yourself through dance.  Dancers will challenge their freestyle abilities in different exercises given.  

Musical Theater/Voice-This class combines elements of jazz, ballet, and lyrical while portraying specific characters found in film, stage performances, and the Broadway stage. This class emphasizes style and musicality through choreography. Basic voice fundamentals are taught in this class.
